In response, Gupta stated, “I extend my gratitude to the BJP and appreciate the support from all of you.”
Who’s Rekha Gupta
Rekha Gupta, aged 50, will make history as the first woman from the BJP to serve as chief minister of Delhi. A first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Gupta successfully contested the Shalimar Bagh constituency in the recent Delhi assembly elections, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes, thereby ending AAP’s decade-long dominance in the region.
Professionally a lawyer, Gupta embarked on her political journey in 1992 by joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, part of Delhi University. She served as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) during the 1996-97 academic year.
