The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the BJP over the delay in selecting Delhi’s next Chief Minister, claiming that the party was unable to decide on an MLA for the role.

The BJP on Wednesday named Rekha Gupta as the next Chief Minister of Delhi. She will succeed Atishi of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which lost the recently concluded assembly polls.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government in Delhi will be held on Thursday, February 20, at the iconic Ramlila Maidan.

On Monday, the Ramlila Maidan, which can accommodate around 30,000 people, was being prepped with a fresh coat of paint, and the cleaning process was also underway.

A BJP leader stated that the location was chosen because it was at this historic site that the first mega protest, led by Jayaprakash Narayan, was held in 1975 against Indira Gandhi’s government.

The BJP achieved a historic feat in the Delhi Assembly Election 2025, returning to power in the national capital after 27 years. The party won 48 of the 70 assembly seats, dethroning the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from power.
